Privacy Policy for PathScribe
This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information is handled in PathScribe.
Information We Collect and How We Use It
PathScribe collects and processes the following types of data to provide its services:
- Location Data & Geofencing: We collect your precise location data to track your paths and enable geofencing features. This data is collected even when the app is closed or not in use (background location) to ensure continuous path tracking and to trigger location-based notifications or actions as defined by you.
- Physical Activity Data: We collect your physical activity data (such as walking, running, or driving) to contextualize your tracked paths and provide meaningful statistics about your journeys.
- Google Drive Backup: If you choose to enable the backup feature, PathScribe will request access to your Google Drive account. We use this access solely to store and retrieve your encrypted backup files in a private, app-specific folder (App Data folder). PathScribe cannot access, read, or modify any other files in your Google Drive.
- Semantic Labeling: PathScribe uses automated processing and machine learning (Semantic Labeling) to analyze your location and activity data. This allows the app to automatically categorize and label your destinations (e.g., "Home", "Work", "Park") to improve your path insights. This processing is performed securely.
- Biometric Data: PathScribe offers an optional Biometric Lock feature to secure the app. If enabled, the app uses your device's built-in biometric authentication (such as fingerprint or facial recognition). PathScribe does not collect, store, or have access to your actual biometric data; all authentication is handled securely by the Android operating system on your device.
- Data Export: You can choose to export your location history in standard formats like GPX or KML. When you use this feature, the app generates a temporary file and uses the Android system's sharing mechanism to let you save or send this file. PathScribe does not upload these exported files to any external servers.
Data Security and Sharing
Your privacy is our priority. Your Location, Activity, and Semantic Labeling data are processed and stored securely on your device. We do not sell or share this personal data with any external servers or third parties for their own use.
When using the Google Drive Backup feature, your data is transmitted over a secure connection (HTTPS) and stored in your personal cloud storage. You are responsible for the security of your Google account.
Data Retention
All data collected by PathScribe is stored locally and securely within the app on your device. We retain this data indefinitely to allow you to review your historical paths, unless you explicitly choose to delete it. Backups stored on Google Drive are retained until you delete them or your Google account is closed.
User Control and Data Deletion
You have full control over your data:
- Local Data: You can permanently delete all your data at any time via the app's settings. Uninstalling the app also deletes all local data.
- Permissions: You can revoke location, activity, or Google Drive permissions at any time through your device settings.
- Backups: You can manage or delete your PathScribe backups directly from your Google Drive account settings or within the app.
